Newcastle fans react as report claims Italian could join the club until summer
Gennaro Gattuso is reportedly willing to join Newcastle until the end of the season, according to Italian reports – and Toon fans have reacted on Twitter.
Gattuso, 43, is currently out of work after leaving Napoli in the summer – where he clocked up 46 wins from a possible 81. A win rate of 57%.
The 2006 World Cup winner almost joined Tottenham in the summer, only for a backlash from fans to put Tottenham off from bringing him in.
He is on the market and Newcastle need a manager. Paulo Fonseca and Lucien Favre seem the likely favourites – with Steven Gerrard also linked.
“A sensational twist; Gattuso could join Newcastle. He would also accept a fixed-term contract until the end of the season,” Santini said.
What do Newcastle fans think about Gattuso until the end of the season?
It might just work. Newcastle are being linked with some big-name managers, but do they have the fight required for a relegation scrap?
Fonseca has been fighting at the top end for years – with Shakhtar and Roma – as has Favre, last in work with Borussia Dortmund.
Gattuso is a fighter. He has that aggression, tenacity, passion, battling personality that will endear himself to fans – and inspire his players.
Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to the reports and many believe Gattuso could be ideal until the summer, before finding a new gaffer.
