Report: Newcastle plan to tempt Champions League boss with £211k-a-week offer

The Mail claim Newcastle are planning to tempt Ajax gaffer Erik Ten Hag with an offer of £211k-a-week, more than Thomas Tuchel gets at Chelsea.

Ten Hag, 51, has been excellent at Ajax since taking over in December 201`7. He has won two Eredivisie titles, clocking up 133 wins in just 181 games.

Newcastle have been linked with numerous managers. Most recently including Paulo Fonseca, Frank Lampard and Lucien Favre, all out of work.

But The Toon are also being linked with Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars. It is believed Overmars might be tempted, if Ten Hag joins too.

Ten Hag, who was named the fourth-best manager in the world at the 2019 FIFA Best Awards, is to be offered an enormous £11million-a-year contract.

That would see him become the Premier League’s third-highest earning manager, behind Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

Those wages eclipse the contracts earned by Tuchel at Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

Ten Hag to Newcastle: Eye-watering offer will surely tempy Ajax boss…

The report states that Ten Hag still remains unconvinced, despite the potential of Newcastle and the enormous wages.

There is one reason for that, because of Newcastle’s current position in the Premier League. Ten Hag is worried it could jeopardise his reputation.

But with his successes in Ajax, the optimism it would generate and the earnings he would rake in – surely it is a no-brainer for Ten Hag?
