Newcastle fans react as club reportedly battling Tottenham to sign England star, out of contract in June

Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter to reports they have joined Tottenham in the race to sign England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season and it looks more than likely he will leave West Brom on loan. Available for nothing, then.

A three-time England international, Johnstone has been in excellent form for West Brom this season. He has kept nine clean sheets in 19 games.

In that time, the England man has only conceded 14 goals. Little surprise, then, that Premier League clubs are becoming interested in Johnstone.

CalcioMercato say Eddie Howe wants Newcastle to sign a goalkeeper – with Johnstone now on the shortlist alongside Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha.

GIVE VIEIRA THE MAN CITY JOB.

This is at the same time that The Mail claim that Spurs are about to make an offer to sign Johnstone. A move in January seems unlikely.

What are Newcastle fans saying about West Brom man Johnstone?

Newcastle do have options between the sticks. Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka are vying to start under Howe – Freddie Woodman an option too.

But Howe is said to be uninspired with his current options and both Strakosha and Johnstone are now options. On a free, he could be ideal.

Tottenham might need him more so, with Hugo Lloris also out of contract in the summer. Pierluigi Gollini is on loan, but yet to prove convincing.

Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to reports that they are interested in signing Johnstone. One fan thinks he would be an ideal addition.
