Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a move to raid Ajax for director of football Marc Overmars – and Toon fans are desperate to see him arrive.

The Toon are preparing to spend big in the upcoming transfer windows. With such wealth, comes the need for some responsibility and order.

A director of football is absolutely crucial to Newcastle’s project and rise up the rankings over the next couple of seasons. Overmars is being targeted.

That is according to De Telegraaf, who say 48-year-old Overmars – a Premier League winner with Arsenal – is the man Newcastle want to hire.

His work at Ajax has been immense. Rejoining the club he played for almost 200 times, he has worked wonders over the last nine years in Amsterdam.

What do Newcastle fans think about the appointment of Overmars?

While he has been brilliant in terms of improving the Ajax academy. His work in the transfer window has been nothing short of sensational.

The likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and plenty of others have come through the academy before being sold for massive sums.

Meanwhile, players struggling to have shine in Europe have moved to Ajax to rejuvenate their careers for small-ish fees. Just look at Sebastian Haller.

Overmars has been the genius behind Ajax’s success under Erik Ten Hag. Now, he could be on his way to Tyneside, if the owners get their wish.
