Newcastle fans discuss Liverpool striker Divock Origi, amid January reports
Newcastle could go after Liverpool striker Divock Origi in the January transfer window – and Toon fans have discussed the reports on Twitter.
Origi, 26, is struggling for game time at Liverpool. The Belgium international has managed just 273 minutes of action, this season.
Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota remain ahead of the ex-Lille attacker in the pecking order. After eight years on the books at Anfield, an exit is likely.
Especially, given the ex-Wolfsburg loanee is out of contract at the end of the season. He can be signed on a pre-contract by foreign clubs from January 1.
However, there is a problem. The African Cup of Nations is about to come around, and it is going to affect Liverpool more than most top-tier clubs.
It will see Liverpool lose attacking duo Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, who will represent Egypt and Senegal. It will leave Liverpool light in attack.
What are Newcastle fans saying about Liverpool star Origi?
While he is lacking in game time now, Origi might become crucial after the new year. Similarly, Japan international Takumi Minamino will get a run.
If Liverpool can find a replacement, then £10million (BBC) Origi might be allowed to leave on loan. Newcastle do have Callum Wilson up top.
Dwight Gayle is cover, while Joelinton can do a job up top. But the drop off from Wilson to the other options is considerable. Newcastle fans want Origi.
