Newcastle United are reportedly interested in luring England defenders John Stones and Chris Smalling to Tyneside this summer – and Toon supporters have reacted on Twitter.
Football website 90Min have reported that Newcastle’s prospective new owners are to go after British talent already impressing in the Premier League. One is Scotland international John McGinn, who has previously been linked.
The report claims Norwich City trio Todd Cantwell, Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons are also under consideration – as are the more experienced duo of Smalling and Stones. Both are out of favour with Manchester United and Manchester City.

Stones, 25, has clocked up just 14 starts for Manchester City this season – even with Aymeric Laporte being sidelined for the majority of the campaign. Smalling has impressed on loan at Roma, but is unlikely to have a future at United.
The report claims that Newcastle would have to splash around £65million to sign both players – with Stones valued at £40million and Smalling at £25million. Roma are publicly known to want to keep former Fulham rock Smalling.
The Express claim Tottenham and Arsenal want Stones, while Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport also reckon Tottenham and Arsenal want Smalling. Newcastle supporters reacted on Twitter to the news they want Stones and Smalling.
