Report: Newcastle could now turn to 'incredible' £17m PL midfielder; Gerrard and Lampard also watching on
Newcastle United could turn to West Ham midfielder, Tomas Soucek, with the Hammers midfielder struggling to get a new contract with the club.
The Sun reports that Newcastle, along with Everton and Aston Villa, are keen on signing the Czech international star, who was one of the Hammers’ best players last season as they pushed for European glory.
However, Soucek and West Ham are at an impasse when it comes to a new contract. Indeed, as reported back in May, talks have completely stalled between player and club over a new deal.
With that, The Sun has claimed that Newcastle are watching on with intent on how Soucek’s situation develops in East London over the summer. The Magpies are looking to add to their squad this summer and have already signed Nick Pope, while a deal for Sven Botman is also edging nearer to completion.
Should West Ham be forced into selling Soucek, they will demand somewhat more than the £17m they paid. The midfielder has formed a fine partnership with Declan Rice in the middle of the park. Dubbed ‘incredible‘ for his performances last year, Soucek now faces a tricky summer.
TBR’s View: Tomas Soucek Would Be Outstanding At Newcastle
Talk about a major signing for Newcastle. If they could somehow manager to get a deal for Soucek over the line it would be a huge story in the Premier League.
Soucek was one of the best all-round midfielders throughout last season and there is little doubting he has the ability to play at the top top level. Of course, Newcastle’s plan is to get to that top level eventually, so Soucek would be a smart addition.
For West Ham, they need to get this sorted really. Soucek is too good to lose, especially to a team likely to be fighting in similar positions this coming season.
