As the Marc Guehi saga drags on, Newcastle are now ready to submit a bid for another player.
At the time of writing, the Magpies still have a chance of signing Guehi despite Crystal Palace agreeing to sell Joachim Andersen to Fulham in a £30m deal – with Steve Parish aiming to receive a guaranteed £65m.
Now – however – Newcastle have moved to sign a new central midfielder, as attempts to sign a central defender in Marc Guehi are thwarted…
Newcastle set to bid for Santiago Hezze
A story from Greek news outlet Sportime now states that Newcastle are about to make a bid in the region of €20m (£17m) to sign Olympiacos No.32 Santiago Hezze.
It is said that, if the value of this sum is accurate, it would be enough to make the UEFA Conference League winners sit down and discuss a sale.
It comes after Gaston Edul claimed that Newcastle were considering a move for Hezze after he shone in the 2023/24 campaign from his defensive midfield role, making 50 appearances, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

The 22-year-old also represented Argentina in the Olympic Games this summer.
While Newcastle were considering a bid, it sounds like Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell have now made a decision on Hezze, with an offer expected to arrive imminently.
Eddie Howe could sign his own Adam Wharton
Adam Wharton is a player who has become something of an overnight sensation in recent times, rising out of the Championship from Blackburn in January and turning into a Premier League star with Crystal Palace – even making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for UEFA Euro 2024.
Interestingly, Hezze has been described as a similar player to the England international by Football Transfers.
The pair both excel when it comes to nicking the ball away from opponents – with Hezze winning 1.5 tackles per game in the UEFA Conference League last season, while also registering a pass success rate of 85.9% as he shone in the No.6 role, as WhoScored shows.
In our view – if this deal materialises – it could also free up Bruno Guimaraes to become a goalscoring midfielder once again, like he was immediately after his £40m move from Lyon in January 2022.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Newcastle prepare to send a bid to Olympiacos.
