Right now, transfer talk at Newcastle United is being dominated by the club’s search for a new centre-back, and in particular, their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Newcastle fans received good news about Guehi on Wednesday, but it seems as if a deal still isn’t quite there, Palace are yet to receive a bid that quite matches their asking price.
Eddie Howe’s need for a new right-sided centre-back has only been exasperated by Fabian Schar’s red card against Southampton last weekend.
Newcastle’s lack of depth has been demonstrated by the fact that Emil Krafth seems likely to start out-of-position away to Bournemouth on Sunday – hardly ideal in game week two.
That being said, Newcastle aren’t just targeting reinforcements at centre-back, Paul Mitchell will be staying alert to other opportunities in the market too.
Signing a right-winger to potentially replace Miguel Almiron is still on the radar – even if it may be difficult to achieve this late.
And in addition, Newcastle are now being linked to a central midfielder who has just competed at the Olympic Games.
Newcastle could be about to table bid for Olympiacos midfielder Santiago Hezze
According to journalist Gaston Edul, who is an expert on all things Argentinian football, Newcastle are now considering a bid for Olympiacos’ Santiago Hezze.
The 22-year-old went to the Paris Olympics with Argentina this summer, alongside the likes of Julian Alvarez.

Hezze is thought to be predominantly a defensive midfielder, but does also have the versatility to play further forward.
Perhaps Hezze is someone who’s been on Mitchell’s radar previously, a player who would be more of an opportunistic signing were he to arrive at St James’ Park.
It’s fair to say that signing a new number six isn’t the most pressing need for Howe right now, he already has the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Miley and Sandro Tonali to come back.
However, adding a better defensive presence to Howe’s options could still be justified, especially if the likes of Isaac Hayden find a new club before the deadline.
But Newcastle fans will likely protest that signing a new centre-back and right-winger should be the club’s only priority right now – two positions that remain an issue.
