Newcastle and West Ham battle Premier League sides for £15m talent who locked down Nick Woltemade

TBR Football understands that one of England’s Under-21 summer heroes Charlie Cresswell could be heading home this January.

Cresswell, 23, was one of the cornerstones of Lee Carsley’s side as they defended their European Championship crown with a win over Germany in the final in June.

On that occasion, Cresswell helped shut down future Newcastle star Nick Woltemade, something a number of Premier League defences have struggled to do this season.

Now, TBR Football understands that Cresswell’s form at Toulouse is being watched closely by several clubs.

Exclusive: Half of the Premier League watch Charlie Cresswell

Toulouse are currently sitting ninth in Ligue 1 and Charlie Cresswell is one of their top performers.

The French side lost Jaydee Canvot to Crystal Palace earlier in the summer, and now they could see another of their defensive options depart in January.

TBR Football has been told that Cresswell could be available for around £15 million, which would not be an issue for any Premier League club.

We can reveal that nearly half of the Premier League have watched Cresswell in action since the summer.

Our sources confirm that Liverpool, Manchester City, Everton, Brentford, Brighton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Ham have all scouted him.

Cresswell was highly rated behind the scenes at Leeds United but made just 14 senior appearances and was sold for £2.5m, despite Daniel Farke branding him a ‘top-class player’.

Charlie Cresswell on his move to Toulouse

Cresswell has already played 41 times for Toulouse and has attempted to immerse himself in the culture of the city after stepping away from his comfort zone in England.

“It’s gone well,” Cresswell told The Athletic. “I’m happy with the way it’s gone.

“I do back myself. I knew what I was capable of, it was just a matter of actually doing it. I think I’ve done a pretty good job this year. I don’t know if I’ve done anything magnificent.

“I just feel like I’ve been pretty solid. The manager [Carles Martinez Novell] has been great with me. He’s a really top coach, a top person as well. He’s been great for me.”
