Newcastle and Sunderland are two clubs in the market for a striker on transfer deadline day.

Eddie Howe’s side suffered a significant loss on September 1, with Alexander Isak set to join Liverpool following a seemingly never-ending transfer saga.

The Black Cats, meanwhile, appear to have secured the services of Bryan Brobbey, which may have brought their striker search to an end.

But a dream target for both clubs had been Lois Openda, who was strongly linked in recent days, only for him to be heading elsewhere.

Lois Openda heading to Juventus amid Newcastle and Sunderland interest

Openda was on the radar of both Newcastle and Sunderland in the final days of the window. TBR Football can reveal that the Magpies recently held talks with his camp, while Sunderland also added him to their transfer shortlist.

However, as deadline day so often goes, a big club swooped in – and Juventus are now set to land his signature.

Openda will join for around £34m, as the Serie A giants continue to rebuild after a couple of torrid years.

Plenty of strikers to go around on transfer deadline day for Newcastle

Sunderland look to be sorted with the purchase of Brobbey, but Newcastle are surely still in the market for a goal-getter.

The likes of Jorgen Strand Larsen and Yoane Wissa have both been heavily linked, while Nick Woltemade arrived from Stuttgart in a record deal just a few days ago.

It promises to be an extremely intriguing deadline day – follow all the updates right here on TBR Football.
