TBR Football can exclusively reveal that some players in Newcastle United’s squad are actually relieved that Alexander Isak is on his way to Liverpool.
The Sweden international striker has been the biggest name of the transfer window. There has been speculation around him almost every day over the last month.
TBR Football exclusively revealed on Saturday that Liverpool are confident about signing Isak before Monday’s deadline.
Now, we can confirm that the deal is all set to go through.
Exclusive: Some Newcastle players are relieved that Liverpool-bound Alexander Isak is not coming back
TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, can confirm that Liverpool have come to an agreement with Newcastle on a British record deal for Alexander Isak that will see them pay £125 million.
We can also reveal that an agreement over a six-year deal is in place, and Isak will have his medical on Monday morning.
The Swedish striker has made it clear all summer that he wanted to join the champions, and he was the ‘dream target’ for Liverpool from the start as well, as we previously revealed.
TBR can now tell you that Newcastle decided last week that they would sanction the move after holding talks with Isak.
Furthermore, we understand that the feeling within some in the dressing room is one of relief that he will not be reintegrated into the squad.
Bailey told TBR: “I am told PIF made the decision after the meeting between Isak and the club, which also included co-owner Jamie Reuben.
“Isak would not entertain staying and following further talks between PIF and Eddie Howe, they made the decision he had to go. They did not see a situation where, if he stayed, he could be reintegrated into the squad, so he had to go.
“I have actually been told that some in the squad are relieved that he won’t be back.”
Liverpool will look to complete over £150 million worth of spending on deadline day, with Marc Guehi also expected to finalise his move to Anfield.
Liverpool’s summer signings in 2025
Liverpool were already the best team in the Premier League last season, but that hasn’t stopped them from strengthening their squad heavily.
Arne Slot’s side have made seven new signings in this window already, and deadline day is set to see two more walk in.
Liverpool’s summer signings 2025
Florian Wirtz
Jeremie Frimpong
Hugo Ekitike
Milos Kerkez
Giovanni Leoni
Freddie Woodman
Armin Pecsi
Alexander Isak*
Marc Guehi*
It remains to be seen now how Slot will integrate Isak and Guehi into his side, with Hugo Ekitike and Ibrahima Konate starting the season well.
If the two deals go through as expected, Isak and Guehi could make their Liverpool debuts against Burnley after the international break.
