National media hails “8/10” performance from Tottenham star at Euro 2020

Tottenham player Joe Rodon has been given huge praise from the national media in Wales after his Euro 2020 performance on Wednesday night.

The Spurs defender impressed for Wales during a 2-0 win against Turkey in midweek.

As a result of three points in the group stage match, they are on the verge of qualification to the knockout rounds. They are still waiting though to see official confirmation.

Rodon went into this summer’s international tournament without a huge amount of minutes at club football in the past year. Therefore, it would have been reasonable to put some question marks against his name.

The centre-back made only 14 Spurs appearances during his debut season with the north London club, so he’s spent a good amount of time on the bench without much rhythm to his game.

However, he’s got the full trust when playing for his country.

Wales media rated Rodon an 8/10 for his display against Turkey, as well as giving a glowing review.

“Made some brilliant clearances, always seemed to be there when danger beckoned and barely put a foot wrong,” Wales Online wrote.

“A couple of colossus performances from the centre-backs (Rodon and Chris Mepham). Rodon continues to grow in stature.”

Rodon will have long-term Wales future, but will it be the same at Spurs?

Rodon turns into an animal on the pitch when he puts on a Wales shirt. Similarly, club and international teammate Ben Davies doest that alongside him in defence.

Rodon was rock solid to help keep a Wales clean sheet, as he showed the perfect blend of aggressive and calm defending. The 23-year-old centre-half showed the right temperament to react to each individual situation.

His international career should be long and fruitful. But, next season he should be aiming to break into the Spurs XI.

Fans will know a lot more about the Welshman this time next year, and he should be looking for a clean slate under whoever is appointed the next Spurs boss.
