‘Music to my ears’: Some Everton fans love what Benitez has told £20m Toffees star

Everton star Abdoulaye Doucoure has shared a message given to him by the manager Rafael Benitez about his positioning on the pitch – and some Toffees fans on Twitter love what they are hearing.

Doucoure, 28, has been told by his new Spanish boss Benitez to be more attacking when the new season begins.

He’s a central midfielder that can be effective in a box-to-box role, so it sounds like Benitez is hoping to get the most out of him going forward.

“Last season, I had a deeper role, more defensive than at Watford. I had the same skills but needed to adapt,” Doucoure said.

“This season, I think I am going to be more forward and attacking. The manager wants me to be more offensive.”

Everton fans 100 per cent agree with Benitez instruction

A selection of Everton supporters on social media are praising Benitez for his message to Doucoure.

The French midfielder enjoyed a decent debut season at Goodison Park last year. He became a popular figure with supporters due to his energy all over the pitch.

The powerhouse scored three goals and made three assists in 34 appearances, but at times under former boss Carlo Ancelotti he was made to carry out a fair amount of defensive work.

Doucoure, who cost Everton £20million, definitely can contribute in the final third. For example, he scored seven goals during the 2017/18 Premier League season for Watford. Also, he followed that up with five top-flight goals the following campaign.
