'MOTM', 'Monster': Llorente and Struijk laud Leeds teammate on Instagram
Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk were amongst those to send messages to Kalvin Phillips on Instagram following Leeds United’s draw on Sunday, with the Spaniard labelling the midfielder his man of the match.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side played out a hard-fought draw with Manchester United at Elland Road. It was a game that lacked quality as well as goals. But it still managed to be eventful.
The stalemate proved to be a fiery encounter, with Craig Pawson having to give a number of fouls and yellow cards.
But Leeds dug in. And perhaps no player was more impressive during the contest than Phillips, who was tasked with marking Bruno Fernandes for the majority of the game.
Fernandes did have his moments. But Phillips did an outstanding job of keeping the visitors’ talisman quiet for the large part of the draw.
As shown by Whoscored, the 25-year-old won all eight of the challenges he attempted. He also produced a handful of outrageous passes that helped drive Leeds up the pitch.
His performance prompted a number of fans to laud his display on social media. And it seems that his teammates were just as impressed.
Phillips took to Instagram to comment on the result. And in response, the likes of Llorente, Struijk and Jamie Shackleton all heaped praise on the England international…
