Aston Villa finally got a glimpse of their best form once again as they showed slightly more cutting edge in their first win of the Premier League season, against Fulham.
The Villans haven’t quite been at their best so far in the early weeks of the campaign, with goals and wins seemingly tough to come by.
Unai Emery looked to put that right, though, as his side took on Fulham at Villa Park in front of an expectant crowd.
While they went behind early on through Raul Jimenez, Aston Villa responded in fine fashion.
Goals from Ollie Watkins, John McGinn and Emi Buendia sealed all three points for the side, as some of their stars looked back to their best.
That included Morgan Rogers, who has struggled to show all of his quality so far, but had glimpses in the match.
He has since gone on to praise one of his teammates, who he seemingly believes is back in form.

Morgan Rogers praises Ollie Watkins after breaking Aston Villa goal drought
Among those who had a positive game was Ollie Watkins, who finally broke his goal drought that lasted almost eight hours.
The forward has struggled for form, much like the rest of his team, which wasn’t helped by a missed penalty in midweek against Bologna.
However, with Watkins finally scoring again, there is plenty of praise for the star, including some from Rogers.
Taking to social media, Watkins simply posted an emoji of hands posed into a heart symbol, referencing his celebration in the game.
Rogers simply replied: “Just what he does [heart eye emoji].”
That may well suggest he is back to his best, something Unai Emery may well agree with.
Speaking after the match, the manager said: “Hopefully he keeps going, but it’s the consequences of how he played on Thursday.
“He missed the penalty, which was important, but the most important and the first step forward is sticking to your tasks, and he was doing that on Thursday and today.
“The goals are coming hopefully for the next matches.”
Given Watkins’ record, there is certainly some hope that he can keep finding those goals for Aston Villa soon.

Ollie Watkins’ Premier League record is promising for Aston Villa
If there is one thing on Watkins’ side that suggests he will continue to improve, it’s his own goal-scoring record.
| Season | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|
| 2024/25 | 16 | 8 |
| 2023/24 | 19 | 15 |
| 2022/23 | 15 | 6 |
| 2021/22 | 11 | 2 |
| 2020/21 | 14 | 5 |
The 29-year-old has consistently scored double figures for goals in the Premier League ever since he moved to Aston Villa.
That’s a record he won’t be looking to slow down with, as the floodgates may now open, following his first of the season.
There are still plenty of games left, ones that Watkins could make a huge impact on.
