Monaco interested in Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez - journalist
Alasdair Gold has told a Football London Q&A that he understands that Monaco are interested in Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez this summer.
It will be interesting to see what that may mean for some of those already at the club. Joe Rodon barely featured this past season. And Sanchez was a more peripheral figure when Cristian Romero was available.
Antonio Conte rates Sanchez incredibly highly. He reportedly believes that he has the potential to be a top player. But Spurs may be offered the chance to offload the Colombian in this window.
Gold was discussing Tottenham’s centre-back search. And he went on to suggest that there has been interest in Sanchez from the Principality.
Monaco interested in Davinson Sanchez
Tottenham face a tough decision on Sanchez. He is not going to be first-choice next year. But he often did well when he was in the starting lineup this past season.
And any player with the backing of Conte has clearly got something about them. Tottenham also face a much more hectic schedule next year, with Champions League football on the horizon.
Keeping Sanchez therefore, would make a lot of sense, even if they sign another centre-back. However, much will depend on what kind of money Monaco are potentially prepared to put on the table.
Tottenham may want to consider offers. Sanchez has not always had the easiest time since moving to North London. And they clearly have big plans this summer.
So Monaco making a substantial offer may leave them with food for thought. Sanchez cost Tottenham £42 million when he arrived from Ajax.
They are unlikely to receive a similar amount when he does move on. But they would be wise to consider a reasonable bid, should one arrive.
