Mohamed Salah’s recent Liverpool displays cause Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer to say the exact same thing

Although Liverpool are two points clear at the top of the Premier League table, there’s a feeling that Arne Slot’s side haven’t quite been at their best.

Liverpool have won several games this season at the last gasp, a heroic but perhaps unsustainable way to collect three points.

And at the hands of Oliver Glasner’s impressive Crystal Palace side, it was Liverpool’s foes who were celebrating in the 97th minute.

That being said, Mohamed Salah is yet to reach his usual level of contribution for Liverpool this season, even if he has still scored three goals and provided three assists in eight games.

Slot appeared to blame Salah for Palace’s late winner on Saturday, and perhaps he was too eager to get on the attack.

But either way, the Egyptian isn’t quite firing on all cylinders this season.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree that Mohamed Salah will come good at Liverpool

With that in mind, Gary Lineker posed an interesting question to Alan Shearer about Salah on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast.

Liverpool made big changes to their squad over the summer – they spent big on new full-backs and some elite attacking talent.

And there’s no doubt that Slot’s side are going through an adjustment period right now.

But when it came to Salah, Lineker wanted to know if Shearer agreed that the Liverpool legend’s role had changed slightly.

Lineker asked: “Do you think Salah’s playing a little bit wider? Like they’re trying to stretch the play a little bit? That’s what it seems like to me.”

Shearer replied: “I don’t know whether he’s playing a little bit wider, but he certainly doesn’t look as confident, and he’s certainly not the Salah we’re used to yet.”

Lineker then interjected to say: “Yeah, that will change.”

Something Shearer agreed with, “Oh yeah, I mean, it will change, yeah, it’s only a matter of time, but they’re all still trying to figure out how to get the best out of each other.”

Lineker then jovially added: “Yeah, absolute crisis. They’re three points clear at the top of the table.”

Florian Wirtz should be Liverpool’s biggest concern right now

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Florian Wirtz hasn’t enjoyed the most productive start to his time at Anfield.

Theo Walcott called Wirtz a ‘problem player’ for Slot recently, alluding to the idea that he’s too good to leave on the bench, but also not in form.

And it will be a slightly difficult situation for Slot to manage.

But on evidence of everything Slot has got right since becoming Liverpool manager, he’s more than equipped to eventually get the best out of Wirtz.

Once both have fully settled and adjusted to life at Liverpool, there’s no doubt that Wirtz playing behind Alexander Isak will be a terrifying prospect for opposition teams.

But until that point, it would be beneficial for Liverpool if Salah could get back to his best and show his usual levels of authority in crunch games.
