Florian Wirtz has been impressed with one Liverpool player in particular since joining Arne Slot’s side in the summer transfer window.
Despite Liverpool’s loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, Florian Wirtz hasn’t tasted much defeat during his time as a Reds player.
However, the German hasn’t lived up to expectations yet. Wirtz has been criticised for poor performances and, as such, has even been dropped from the starting XI in some fixtures.

That said, the change to the Premier League is pretty dramatic – so there’s still plenty of time for the attacking midfielder to impress. It also doesn’t matter too much when your teammates are performing well, one of whom, more than most, is at Anfield.
Florian Wirtz is very impressed by Ryan Gravenberch at Liverpool
Wirtz believes that fellow Reds midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is the player performing better than anyone else in Arne Slot’s regime at the moment.
In an interview with Sky Sports Germany, Wirtz said: “The one who’s playing very, very well at the moment is [Ryan] Gravenberch. He’s standing out at the moment.”
Granted, Liverpool have an abundance of talent coursing through their side, with the two big names likely being Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk – but the Dutchman is trumping both.

Gravenberch has been sensational. He’s bagged two goals and one assist in the Premier League, but his overall displays have simply been dominant.
| Competition | Apps | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 5 | 2 | 1 |
| UEFA Champions League | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| Total | 6 | 2 | 2 |
He’s the cornerstone of Slot’s side and will be for years to come.
Gravenberch is one of the Premier League’s modern-day bargains
Liverpool signed Gravenberch from Bayern Munich in 2023 for a fee reported as €40 million (£34.2 million).
In this current market, compared to some of the prices other teams have had to pay for holding midfielders, this is an absolute steal.
| Transfer Fee (GBP) | |
|---|---|
| Ryan Gravenberch | £34.2 million |
| Declan Rice | £105 million |
| Rodri | £62.5 million |
| Manuel Ugarte | £51.5 million |
Superb business by Liverpool, and an asset they will most certainly be looking to keep hold of.
