Mohamed Salah says player Arne Slot sold will thrive at his new club, ‘no doubt…’

Mohamed Salah has endured a tough start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign at Liverpool.

The Egyptian missed the first penalty of the shootout during the Community Shield loss against Crystal Palace and has not performed to his usual record-breaking standard in the Premier League.

Salah has been accused of lacking confidence throughout the opening weeks of the season, and although he has thus far not been the usual talisman the supporters saw last year, he still has one goal and one assist to his name in three outings.

It has been a summer of wholesale changes at Anfield, with around £418 million spent on new signings – while the atmosphere at Liverpool could not be more positive, Salah responded to social media criticism of his former teammates.

And on deadline day, another of Salah’s long-term teammates packed his bags on Merseyside for pastures new.

Mohamed Salah sends a message to Harvey Elliott

TBR Football exclusively revealed Aston Villa sold their project to Harvey Elliott on deadline day as he joined Villa Park on loan until the end of the season, which will turn permanent for £35m in 2026.

Ideally, Liverpool wanted Elliott to remain at Anfield, but with first-team opportunities continuing to prove limited this season, he made clear his intentions to leave the club in order to become a regular first-team starter elsewhere.

And now Salah has sent a heartfelt farewell message to his former teammate as he embarks on a new adventure in the West Midlands.

“You’ll be remembered for your loyalty and dedication every time you were called upon. You leave as a champion, and I’ve got no doubt you’ll do big things at your new club. They are lucky to have you.”

Former Red Stewart Downing labelled Elliott a “frightening talent” during their time together when the 22-year-old was on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the 2020/21 season.

Elliott scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 41 Championship appearances that year, which would ultimately see the midfielder involved in Jurgen Klopp’s first team plans going forward.

However, Arne Slot saw little use for the midfielder in his maiden season at Anfield, as Elliott started only six times across all competitions, with a further 22 outings off the bench, and with this year proving to offer the same game time, he has decided to leave the club he supports to further his career.

How did Harvey Elliott perform in his last two Liverpool seasons?

As the wheels fell off during Klopp’s final season at Anfield, it became apparent that the gruelling schedule had taken a profound effect on his squad.

The German turned to Elliott towards the end of the campaign, and he would prove to be one of the most influential players for the Reds, contributing one goal and five assists in the final six games of the season.

However, he would play approximately 16 hours fewer for Liverpool the following season and was rarely called upon off the bench for Slot.

Indeed, many Liverpool supporters will share Salah’s sentiments, but Elliott’s decision to join Aston Villa is likely the best outcome for his future.
