Mohamed Salah has transformed into one of the best players in the world over the past decade or so.
Once upon a time, the Egyptian was a flop at Chelsea, and nobody expected Salah to become the star he is today.
However, through a lot of hard work and dedication, Salah has reached the top of the game.
Of course, the winger has been helped by some world-class coaching along the way.
Jurgen Klopp transformed Salah when he arrived at Anfield, but, interestingly, Arsene Wenger also gave Salah an important piece of advice.
Indeed, speaking on Liverpool’s YouTube channel, Salah has now shared what Wenger told him about becoming a great player when he came to watch Liverpool training once.

What Arsene Wenger told Mohamed Salah
Salah shared the advice he received from Wenger.
According to the winger, Wenger told him that the difference between a good player and a great player is the way a great player can focus for a full 90 minutes and make a difference in a game late on even if they don’t have the momentum.
“I got advice from Arsene Wenger before. He was at Melwood at the time and I asked him, what’s the difference between a good player and a really good player,” Salah said.
“He said ‘I think a very, very good player is always focused on the game, even if he doesn’t have momentum, he stays in the game until the final whistle.’ That for me, I know there are some games where I don’t have momentum, but I’m always focused on the game to finish stuff.”
Salah’s record late in games
Wenger told Salah how important it is to stay focused late in games, and this is advice that the winger has clearly taken on board.
Indeed, Salah’s record late in matches is brilliant, and he’s so often the difference-maker for Liverpool when the going gets tough.
Salah has scored late goals against the likes of Aston Villa and Arsenal in recent weeks, and he does have a knack of popping up when Liverpool are in trouble.
| Mohamed Salah for Liverpool | |
| Goals | 221 |
| Game winning goals | 60 |
| Goals after the 60th minute | 89 |
| Percentage of goals scored after 60th minute | 40% |
Salah is effective in every moment in a game, of course, but he does have that uncanny ability to turn up and get a vital goal late in a game.
40% of Salah’s Liverpool goals have come in the final half hour of games, and that’s not a coincidence. the attacker makes sure he’s always alert to any chances at any moment in a game.
There’s a reason you rarely see Salah subbed off by Liverpool, and that’s because he’s such a constant threat.
