'Missed opportunity', 'you have failed': Some Arsenal fans gutted as the 'next Thierry Henry' joins another club
Arsenal fans have bemoaned their club’s failure to land Patson Daka.
The Gunners were apparently eyeing the 22-year-old striker last year.
Last summer, South African outlet The Far Post claimed Arsenal were one of the sides vying for Daka’s signature.
Now, Leicester have signed the Red Bull Salzburg and Zambia ace for a reported £23m.
And some fans are disappointed to see a player once labelled “the next Thierry Henry” go elsewhere.
Arsenal fc. You have failed to sign Patson Daka at a cheaper price. Such a goal pouncher is rarely found.— Henry Nsakalika (@HNsakalika) June 30, 2021
I envy Leicester with this transfer as Daka is a player I’d have loved Arsenal to sign. https://t.co/R2aAeP8W9j— No one in particular (@Uncle_Teekay) June 30, 2021
Leicester signing Patson Daka just shows how ahead they continue to be from Arsenal. It will take us time to be top 4 contender or even win the league title.— Sephiri Mosothoane™ (@SEPHIRI_M) June 30, 2021
23m for Daka. Leicester have the best transfer strategy in thr world. Find good young players everyone knows are very good and buy them for cheap. It’s not that hard— AFCryan 🇿🇦🔴 #KroenkeOut (@AFC_Ryan__) June 30, 2021
Daka, who scored 34 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season, has signed a five-year contract with the Foxes.
The 6ft 1in ace was the Austrian Bundesliga’s top scorer last term with 27 goals in 28 games.
Daka was named the league’s player of the season after helping Salzburg win their eighth straight title.
Former Lille and Zambia coach Herve Renard previously said of the player: “Write his name down because he’s very, very promising” (Besoccer).
Dan Kabwe, another of his former coaches, told News Diggers last year: “When I saw Patson Daka, what came into my mind is this guy is the next Thierry Henry – and in no time he has proved it.”
