Leeds United loaned out young Elia Caprile to Italian third division side Aurora Pro Patria at the start of this season and the goalkeeper has caught everyone’s eye.

The now 20-year-old joined Leeds from his hometown club Chievo Verona in January 2020. He played 18 times for Mark Jackson’s under-23 side, which won the Premier League 2 Division 2 title last season.

Before heading out on loan in the summer, the young Italian penned a new contract at Leeds United. He’s now tied down until the summer of 2024 and his performances out on loan could make the Whites consider extending that deal further.

For Pro Patria this season. Caprile has played 37 times in all competitions and has become one of their best players.

Leeds United loanee Elia Caprile hailed by Italian media

Italian media outlet Informaziaone Online published an article heaping praise on Caprile, who they describe as ‘Saint Elia’ and the ‘goalkeeper of miracles’.

It has been claimed that Pro Patria ‘owe’ the youngster for helping them avoid relegation this season. He has not only saved them from the drop, but Caprile has also fired the Italian outfit to 11th in the table with a game still left to be played in the season.

The outlet further describes the Leeds loanee as a goalkeeper with a ‘will of steel’ and ‘powerful intuition’ who is ‘quick to remedy, direct, authoritative and encouraging’ despite his very young age.

Caprile will miss Pro Patria’s final game of the season due to suspension but he has done enough in his year out on loan to give fans a reason to remember him.

A look at the Whites’ goalkeeping situation

Illan Meslier, still only 22, is Leeds United’s undisputed number one at the moment and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. The Frenchman has been brilliant for the Whites and he will only get better in the coming years.

Leeds’ backup option at the moment is Kristoffer Klaesson, the Norway under-21 international who moved to Elland Road from Valerenga at the start of this campaign.

There definitely is a spot up for grabs for Caprile in the first team squad but it’s unlikely that he’ll get there right after his current loan spell. The Premier League is on a completely different level compared to the Serie C and a good season there does not mean he’s ready for the senior Leeds squad.

However, Jesse Marsch has shown in the past that he’s not afraid to give young players an opportunity if they convince him that they’re good enough. That’s all Caprile has to do in the coming years.
