When everyone is fit, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta now has an extraordinary amount of quality at his disposal.
Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Olympiacos in the Champions League was a stark reminder of just how competitive it is for places in north London right now, even with four top tier players injured.
Right now, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke, Piero Hincapie and Gabriel Jesus are all on the sidelines, and yet Mikel Arteta still has several selection headaches.
That being said, there’s still no definite starter for Arsenal at left wing, and the position is somewhat up for grabs.
On the opposing flank, Bukayo Saka is always going to start and star in Arsenal’s biggest games.
But after Saka’s goal and efforts against Olympiacos, perhaps there could be an interesting opportunity on the horizon.
Bukayo Saka has proven that he can be a threat on the left for Arsenal
When Saka scored against Olympiacos late on, he did so from a left wing position.
And say it quietly, but perhaps there is merit to Saka starting games on the left as the season goes on.
On the face of it, Arsenal fans might question why any side would mess around with the starting position of their best player.
But given how accomplished Saka’s left foot is, he does look very effective attacking defences from the left.

In the Hale End academy, Saka was often used in a left wing role – his shift to the right-hand side predominantly happened in the first team.
And based on early season form, it would appear that Saka and Madueke are Arsenal’s strongest pair of wingers when everyone is fit.
In order to play both, Arsenal can put Madueke on the left – the winger has played in a similar role for England.
But perhaps Saka playing on the left might actually be the best idea when using both in the same side.
Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka are Arsenal’s strongest wingers right now
Moreover, another benefit to Saka occasionally playing on the left could be the opportunities it affords Max Dowman.
Right now, Dowman might struggle to play when both Saka and Madueke are fit.
And whilst Arteta will be in no rush for 15-year-old Dowman to play 30 games a season, he will recognise that he’s also too good to leave out.
All in all, the majority of Saka’s games should still start on the right wing, that’s his best position after all.
But it will only strengthen Arsenal’s unpredictability in attack if Arteta is suddenly able to start Saka on the left one game, and on the right in the next.
Once next summer arrives, Arsenal will probably try and recruit a new elite left winger, perhaps with Leandro Trossard leaving the club.
But until then, there’s much worse ideas than trying Saka on the left in a few games once Madueke is back fit.
