Mikel Arteta has blocked Jorginho from leaving before Turkey’s transfer deadline – and the Arsenal No.20 will now be offered a new contract.
That is according to Aksam in Turkey.
So, what is the latest on Jorginho at Arsenal? Let’s take a look…
Arsenal set to offer Jorginho new contract
Well – according to Aksam – Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray all wanted to sign the Italy international before Friday’s transfer deadline in Turkey.
However – after Jorginho shone against Liverpool on Sunday – Arteta has moved to block the £12m man from departing the Emirates Stadium.
The Turkish news outlet add that the Spaniard has spoken to those in the boardroom about the 32-year-old’s contract situation, with his current terms set to expire in June.
Arteta is said to have praised Jorginho and feels delighted with the Imbituba-born maestro’s performances, so the expectation is that he will be offered a new contract soon.

It comes just days after the Italian himself admitted there has been no discussion about a new contract.
Jorginho has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season, although only five of his 14 Premier League outings have come as starts.
Mikel Arteta spot on with Jorginho stance
In our view, Arteta was correct to block Jorginho from leaving – and is also spot on with his demand for the playmaker to be handed a new contract.
Arsenal are still a relatively young side, and therefore, experience will be vital as the Gunners aim to win silverware in the coming years.

Players like Jorginho – even if not actually playing – are still worth their weight in gold when it comes to creating a winning mentality inside the dressing room and providing knowhow in tense situations.
Arsenal visibly crumbled last season when the title race became nervy, so it would have been mindless to let someone as experienced as Jorginho depart the Emirates Stadium – fortunately, Arteta and Edu appear to agree.
