Mido has underlined his excitement on Twitter at the reportedly imminent appointment of Antonio Conte – but shares what Tottenham have got wrong.

Conte, 52, is expected to be handed the Tottenham job on Tuesday. Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked on Monday morning, after defeat on Saturday.

The Italian gaffer is set to arrive having almost joined Spurs in the summer, only for a breakdown in talks. The Mail say he will sign an 18-month deal.

It is an appointment that will go down well at Tottenham, with Conte seen as one of the world’s best managers. He just won Serie A with Inter.

Ex-Spurs striker Mido has shared his excitement on Twitter at the appointment of Conte – but has questioned the length of his proposed deal.

Mido on Conte at Tottenham: 18-month deal is a strange one

The appointment of Conte is a massive one for Spurs. It finally gives them a manager on Mauricio Pochettino’s level, but he has work to do.

He has got to get the best out of Harry Kane and other faltering Spurs stars – including Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Steven Bergwijn and plenty more.

Conte has also got to find the right formation, something Nuno failed to do. But the decision to hand him 18 months is a strange one.

The Mail’s report does say there is a clause to extend by 12 months. But perhaps it is Daniel Levy saving himself from a big compensation pay out.

Indeed, Levy has had to shell out a combined £24million on Mourinho and Nuno. The Sun say Jose got £10m, and £14m for Nuno.
