Micah Richards says £60m striker would actually be perfect for Arsenal after FA Cup defeat vs Man United

Arsenal were taught the cruel lesson on how being wasteful in front of goal could cost them in crunch ties as they suffered a 5-3 loss against Manchester United in the Third Round of the FA Cup on penalties.

Alan Shearer felt frustrated for Arsenal fans as plenty of excellent passes in behind United’s defence were not being capitalised upon by the hosts.

Chance after chance went begging, with the likes of Kai Havertz and Declan Rice being handed golden opportunities after the score was tied at 1-1 to emerge as the Gunners’ heroes on the day.

Arsenal will be frustrated as Manchester United were there for the taking, having failed to win a single game in their last five outings before heading to the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta backed Havertz after Arsenal’s defeat and lauded his team as a whole for producing “incredible” performances despite playing every few days.

Paul Merson urged Arsenal to sign a striker after they recently lost 2-0 to Newcastle United in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Arsenal told to sign Victor Osimhen after FA Cup loss vs Man United

In their successive losses to both Newcastle and Manchester United at home, the visitors deserve immense credit for how well they played.

But if Mikel Arteta would likely been smiling from ear to ear had his side been more clinical in both outings.

After Arsenal were trounced in the penalty shootout against Manchester United, Micah Richards recommended the Gunners to go out and sign Victor Osimhen.

The pundit said via BBC Sport: “The one I looked at short term is Victor Osimhen. The problems he’s had at Napoli and he’s been allowed to go on loan to Turkey.”

Micah Richards felt Arsenal should have beaten Manchester United based on the chances they had but on the day, they were far too profligate in terms of their finishing.

“Arsenal should have won the game but it wasn’t meant to be. Looking at Man United’s best players, it was their defenders and goalkeeper. You have got to put away the chances and that’s more the concern for Arsenal.”

TBR Football previously revealed Napoli are open to sell Osimhen for £60 million, with the Italian giants also proposing a swap deal to Manchester United where they would happily swap Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund for the Nigerian striker as Ruben Amorim’s side cannot afford his fee.

While Chelsea were monitoring Osimhen, it has been reported that Enzo Maresca’s side are likelier to sign Liam Delap over him, which would theoretically boost the Gunners’ chances of signing him.

Emmanuel Petit told Arsenal to sign Victor Osimhen

Signing Osimhen was recommended to Arsenal by their former midfielder Emmanuel Petit in December.

“I really like Osimhen. He’s actually in Turkey at the moment with Galatasaray. I think he’s on the radar of PSG actually.”

Emmanuel Petit felt another forward who would suit Arsenal is Rafael Leao.

“I also like Leao from AC Milan. Who knows? It’s difficult in transfer windows in January to get the big names coming, but with the new format of the Champions League, maybe something could be possible.”

Last Thursday, David Ornstein’s update on Arsenal’s transfer plans was that Mikel Arteta and Co are content with the roster at their disposal.

“I think by and large that they are going to go with what they’ve got, which again will not be music to the ears of many fans who are baying for signings as Arsenal look to compete for a trophy that many feel Arteta needs to deliver or face some pressure.”

“Personally, I think he’s done a fantastic job at Arsenal and got them competitive again, and let’s see how the rest of this season goes.”

With that being the case, perhaps Micah Richards’ suggestion may not be strongly considered by Arsenal.
