Micah Richards names Manchester City player they will rely on “so much” tonight
Micah Richards has claimed that Kevin De Bruyne is the Manchester City star who must shine for them tonight in the Champions League final.
Man City face rivals Chelsea on Saturday night in the all-english European League final.
If Pep Guardiola’s side win, they’ll complete a treble this season.
A Champions League success, along with the Premier League and Carabao Cup, would complete a remarkable campaign for the club. However, they have to get past a Chelsea side that have won the previous two meetings between the teams.
Pundit and ex-Man City defender Richards has highlighted De Bruyne as the talisman ahead of tonight. De Bruyne, 29, is raring to go with full fitness.
The Belgian superstar can play anywhere in the midfield or attack, but based on previous Champions League games he may line up in the false-nine position against Chelsea. It takes a brave man though to try predict Guardiola’s team selection.
“De Bruyne has had games when turning it on in the Premier League but he’s reserved his best for the Champions League and so much rests on his shoulders. The same, though, is true for [N’Golo] Kante, who has the influence of two men. This battle will be huge,” Richards wrote for the Daily Mail.
A Champions League trophy would put De Bruyne in conversation for greatest ever Manchester City player
Man City have some amazing club legends associated with them. Colin Bell, David Silva, Mike Summerbee and Sergio Aguero are among their very elite.
However, De Bruyne can be held in the same regard if he inspires his side tonight.
Interestingly, the attacking playmaker is coming up against former club Chelsea. It never happened for him at Stamford Bridge, but Man City made one of their best ever decisions signing him.
He’s been the outstanding individual in the Premier League the last couple of years, along with a couple of Liverpool players, and he can secure his legacy tonight.
