Mesut Ozil’s agent has told iNews that his client will remain at Arsenal until the end of his contract which expires in the summer of 2021, despite rumours claiming that the attacking midfielder will leave the club this summer.
Ozil, 31, has been at the forefront of enormous criticism from supporters and pundits alike – as he struggles to live up to his enormous £350,000-a-week wages. He has scored just one goal, and laid on two assists in 22 games.
The former Real Madrid and Schalke star has been linked with a move to Turkey of late, with Arsenal teammate Mo Elneny – who is currently on loan at Besiktas – claiming this week that he would move to Fenerbahce.
Özil’s agent, Dr Erkut Sögüt, put an end to all doubts surrounding his future though. He stated that Ozil will remain at Arsenal until his contract expires, in 15 months time – meaning he will leave the club on a free transfer.
“At the moment, we don’t even talk about it, because he still has one-and-a-half-years left,” Sögüt said. “He still has 15 months to go. Until then, he will stay at Arsenal, for sure. He will stay until the end of his contract. There’s no chance he’ll leave.”

TBR’s view – Arsenal may have to pay Ozil’s wages
Unfortunately for Arsenal, they have little choice but to pay his enormous wages until his contract expires. Clubs are unlikely to want to spend much of a transfer fee on Ozil, given their finances will be used to cover his pay cheque.
It looks, then, as if Arsenal will be stuck with Ozil and his giant income until the summer of 2021.
