Mauricio Pochettino could be about to suffer his next Mousa Dembele moment at Chelsea when it comes to Conor Gallagher.
The Argentine enjoyed a brilliant spell at Tottenham Hotspur before Daniel Levy ultimately decided to dismiss him in November 2019.
It came off the back of a poor start to the season at Tottenham. But Mauricio Pochettino had guided them to a Champions League final just months before.
Pochettino led Spurs to dizzy heights with a midfield duo of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko after losing key man Mousa Dembele in January 2019.
The Belgian had long been a standout performer in Pochettino’s midfield and his move to the Chinese Super League for just £11 million took many by surprise, despite his injury problems at the time.
Dembele was approaching the final six months of his contract and Spurs decided to cash in on the midfielder.
Now, Pochettino could face a similar situation at Chelsea when it comes to Conor Gallagher’s future.

Pochettino could suffer next Dembele moment at Chelsea
Gallagher has excelled under Pochettino so far this term and to many, he’s been their standout midfielder.
The 23-year-old once again put in an exceptional performance last night to help the Blues overcome Newcastle United in the League Cup quarter-final. But there have been suggestions that Chelsea are ready to cash in on their academy product.
Gallagher has just over 18 months left on his current deal and The Daily Mail recently claimed Chelsea are prepared to consider offers for him.
This is down to the Blues aiming to strengthen other areas of their squad, particularly up front, as well as the need to balance the books due to Financial Fair Play.
Yet, Gallagher has established himself as a key fixture on Pochettino’s side and it would surely be detrimental to the Argentine to offload him.
The Englishman came through the ranks at Chelsea and has even captained Pochettino’s side this term.
Many Spurs fans would argue that Pochettino may have had a better shot of winning the Champions League final back in 2019 had they kept hold of Dembele.
It’s important to note the midfielder had struggled with injuries that term. But it certainly felt like a financial decision more than anything else.

While Chelsea aren’t competing in Europe this year and the title seems unrealistic at best, selling Gallagher could have a detrimental impact on their campaign.
Of course, Tottenham are one of the many sides monitoring Gallagher’s situation too, with Ange Postecoglou said to be a huge admirer.
Pochettino has been here with Spurs in the past and he will surely be desperate to keep hold of arguably his most consistent player this term.
