'Match made in heaven': Pundit thinks Newcastle could appoint two-time CL winning boss after Howe
Talksport pundit Darren Bent believes that Newcastle United could turn to Jose Mourinho at some point in the near future.
The Magpies’ new owners are among the wealthiest people in the world. Under their management, the Toon could go on to do what Manchester City did all those years ago, but to achieve that, they’ll need a world-class manager.
Eddie Howe is currently at the helm and he is brilliant in his own right. Newcastle have improved massively since he was appointed, but will he really remain the boss in a couple of years time?
If Newcastle ever decide to change their manager, Bent believes that the new owners will consider Mourinho.
Darren Bent: Newcastle could appoint Mourinho one day
The ex-Sunderland man and host Andy Goldstein were debating if a Premier League club would ever consider Mourinho again after his spells at Manchester United and Tottenham.
Bent thinks Newcastle’s owners could one day.
He said on TalkSport: “Newcastle is the only one where I’m looking at it and thinking it’s a match made in heaven.
“They’ve got endless funds, he (Mourinho) likes to spend money, I can imagine with the new owners being there, they’d look at his CV and like to appoint him.”
TBR View:
Howe is a fantastic boss and he will be hoping to stay at Newcastle for a long, long time.
However, it’s not often that a manager stays for more than a couple of years at a single club these days, and it won’t be a surprise to see a vacant hot seat at St James’ Park in the near future.
Mourinho, a two-time Champions League winner, knows exactly how to lead a side to glory if he’s given the money he wants – just look at what he did with Chelsea when he first came to the Premier League.
That could convince the Newcastle ownership to hand him the job one day, but as for this moment, Howe is at the helm, he’s doing a great job and the owners should give him all the support he needs.
