Cristian Romero could be fit enough to play for Tottenham Hotspur against their London rivals West Ham tomorrow night.

Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge says that the defender, who has just signed permanently for Tottenham, could make his return.

Spurs have been unbeaten in the Premier League this season, and they beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 last time out on Sunday.

Davinson Sanchez has deputised flawlessly for Romero, but the former Atalanta man is on another level and it would be a boost if he returned.

Romero could play for Tottenham at West Ham

Bridge said of Romero signing for Spurs and potentially being fit for the game: “Massive, massive news.

“He joined from Atalanta with the obligation to buy. Tottenham were always going to take this up. He’s one of the best in the Premier League.

“He’s had a slight knock, a muscle injury over the last couple of games. But my understanding is, he could be in the squad tomorrow night to face West Ham.”

Romero has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and Jamie Carragher is among those who are a big fan.

He said: “I really like him. Romero being in my position and I remember watching him at Man City and I thought there’s something special about him.

“Every time I watch him play he takes the ball and is aggressive.

“He reminds me of Carvalho at Chelsea. He’s not the biggest. He is clever and switched on, he’s streetwise. I think Tottenham have a real player there.”

Romero’s fighting spirit would make him the ideal player for a London derby but he might well have to settle for a place on the bench so he is not rushed back.
