Marseille have reignited their past interest in Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares and are trying to get a deal over the line for the left-back.
French outlet Made In Foot, citing L’Equipe, claims that Marseille are keen to sign Tavares after previously registered a tentative interest in the defender. A love move would appear the most likely option for Tavares, with Arsenal previously quoting Atalanta around the £35m mark for their man.
Should Marseille get a deal done for Tavares, it would mean the Portuguese defender missing out on Arsenal’s pre-season tour of America, which begins next week.

It would also mark the end of a short spell for Tavares with Arsenal, having only signed from Benfica just last summer.
Tavares has endured a rocky time since moving to North London with some inconsistent and often erratic performances overshadowing his obvious talent. However, he was branded as ‘brilliant‘ by MOTD last term, so there is a case for Arsenal to keep him in the long-term.
Marseille are said to be hoping their relationship with Arsenal will help them. Recent deals involving William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi have worked out well for both parties.
TBR’s View: Arsenal Must Think Long-Term With Tavares
While it wasn’t the best season for Tavares, Arsenal surely won’t be simply giving up on him so early into his career with the Gunners.
There is definitely something there, it’s just a case of nurturing his talent and getting the best from him over time. A loan move, then, might well be the best thing for him this season.
As mentioned, Marseille have served Arsenal well in terms of loan moves before and if they can get the same out of Tavares, then it’s probably a deal worth looking into.
