Mark Lawrenson predicts Crystal Palace vs Spurs result
Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that Spurs’ defence remains their weak link, but backed Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 when they meet on Saturday.
Tottenham are, perhaps surprisingly, the early pace-setters in the Premier League. They have won each of their opening three games 1-0.
The optimism amongst supporters seemingly remains cautious. But the victory over Manchester City on the opening day provided a glimpse of what they are capable of.
By contrast, Palace are looking for their first win. But they showed a lot of fight last time out as they twice came from behind to draw with West Ham.
Lawrenson has suggested that he continues to have concerns about Spurs defensively. But he claimed that he expect the visitors to take three points back with them from Selhurst Park.
“Tottenham have not done anything spectacular so far but they have done really well to win every Premier League game 1-0 – especially because I think their defence is their weak link,” he told BBC Sport, as he predicted a 1-0 win.
“Harry Kane is back, and scoring again – well, for England anyway – but Spurs could be without his strike partner Son Heung-min on Saturday because of a calf problem picked up on international duty with South Korea.
“I’d still fancy Spurs to edge this one and continue their 100% winning start, even if Son is not fit.”
Spurs have not had ideal international break ahead of Palace clash
As Lawrenson notes, Son is a doubt for Saturday. But he is not the only important player Nuno could be without.
Of course, Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Davinson Sanchez are set to miss out amid all of the comical scenes from South America.
There are concerns for Oliver Skipp. The midfielder limped off as England’s under-21s beat Kosovo this week.
So their preparations have been anything but ideal.
But Lawrenson seemingly believes that they should still have enough to get another three points under their belt.
