Marc Guehi to Liverpool may leave £26m Reds star furious after what he has demanded

Liverpool have made a move for Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day, with the Crystal Palace centre-back on his way to Anfield.

Liverpool are getting an absolute steal. Guehi will cost the Reds just £35m, and there is a 10% sell-on clause included in the package.

Guehi is added to the long, illustrious list of Liverpool signings this summer, joining Newcastle’s Alexander Isak – surely Liverpool’s finest coup.

But Guehi’s importance can’t be underestimated. He will form a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk and provide much-needed competition for that starting slot in the Liverpool XI. That said, another new signing may not be best pleased.

Giovanni Leoni wanted Liverpool minutes amid Marc Guehi transfer

Giovanni Leoni joined Liverpool for £26m earlier this summer, in a somewhat forgotten transfer considering the star-studded list of names Liverpool have brought in.

However, TBR Football reported that one thing Leoni wanted at Anfield was football. He is trying to get into the Italy side and was playing first-team football at Parma. For that reason, he wanted Premier League minutes.

With Guehi arriving, Joe Gomez staying, and Ibrahima Konate in the mix, it’s going to be very difficult to thrust yourself into that side.

Granted, Liverpool face a monumental number of games across the season – but their newfound depth that will delight Slot may worry Leoni.

Liverpool’s centre-back options with Marc Guehi

With the imminent acquisition of Guehi, Leoni probably looks like fourth or fifth fiddle among the Reds’ centre-back options.

  1. Virgil van Dijk
  2. Marc Guehi
  3. Ibrahima Konate
  4. Joe Gomez
  5. Giovanni Leoni

Jarrell Quansah has obviously departed, which left a void that Leoni filled, but now Guehi’s arrival fills this all up again. A predicament, but a nice one to have for Liverpool.
