How Oliver Glasner feels as Crystal Palace agree £35m sale of Marc Guehi to Liverpool

TBR Football can now exclusively share how Oliver Glasner is feeling as Crystal Palace agree to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool.

The Austrian has been insistent on the England international staying at Selhurst Park, despite Steve Parish being contrastingly open on the fact Crystal Palace cannot afford to lose the defender on a free transfer in June 2026.

As recently as after the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, the Crystal Palace boss said: “We have to (keep Guehi) if we want to play a successful season… we need Marc.

“It is not possible within one day to find a replacement who can play immediately in the Premier League. When you see our defensive set-up, this is our foundation, everybody knows exactly what he has to do, everybody can rely on each other. Marc isn’t a small part in this, he’s our captain.

“We have to keep him. I told this to the chairman. It’s not for me.”

However, Parish has now agreed to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool – and TBR Football have received information on how Oliver Glasner feels about this development.

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent for TBR Football – has now been told by sources close to the transfer that the man from Salzburg is very unhappy about this decision.

We understand Guehi, who will undergo his medical in London, has not pushed for the move to Anfield – believed to be worth £35m to Crystal Palace – and left the decision up to Parish.

The man from Forest Hill has now opted to cash in on the Crystal Palace captain, but sources insist the 60-year-old is still working hard to sign a replacement and feels the team can cope with the sale.

Glasner – however – feels it will have a considerable impact on his side, having already lost Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

Crystal Palace expected to replace Marc Guehi with Jaydee Canvot and Igor Julio

TBR Football understand Crystal Palace are expected to replace Guehi with two players.

Jaydee Canvot is heading to Selhurst Park from Toulouse in a £25m deal, the 19-year-old who also had interest from Aston Villa and AC Milan.

Crystal Palace are also set to sign Igor Julio on a season-long loan from Brighton to provide further depth in the centre-back department.

Fans might have expected more of a marquee option to replace Guehi – such as Ousmane Diomande, who Crystal Palace looked at earlier this summer.

However, such a move is currently unlikely to happen.
