Journalist: Manchester United set to sign ‘special’ £26m goalscorer from under Arsenal’s noses

Manchester United are in direct talks with PSV over a deal to bring Arsenal target Cody Gakpo to Old Trafford, according to Rudy Galetti.

The journalist writes on his website how sources have confirmed to him that United are looking to sign Gakpo and that talks are actually more advanced than has been claimed elsewhere.

Of course, we know Arsenal are huge fans of Gakpo. Reports just a week ago claimed the PSV star might even be available for a bargain £26m, with the Dutch club apparently in desperate need to sell. Leeds have also been linked with a move to the Dutchman, who has been flying in the Eredivisie of late.

However, according to Galetti, it is Manchester United who are going to get their man. He claims that the Red Devils are looking to beat everyone to the punch and complete a deal soon. A January deal has not been ruled out, as United look to provide Erik ten Hag with even more attacking options.

Gakpo’s form this season has been nothing short of sensational. He’s already scored 13 and set up another 16 across all competitions. Certainly, he’s making it clear as to why so many clubs want him.

TBR’s View: Arsenal will be gutted if Gakpo signs for United

Arsenal are flying high atop the Premier League table and they’ll be aggrieved somewhat if United beat them to a big signing.

Gakpo has been on Arsenal’s radar for so long that you almost assumed they’d got a deal lined up. But it seems Ten Hag’s influence at United might be telling, with the Dutchman on his way to Old Trafford.

If that £26m fee is also right, then whoever does get him is getting a bargain. Gakpo is a serious talent, and it’s so obvious why United, Arsenal and Leeds all want him.
