Manchester United now offered chance to sign striker, after claims Arsenal were planning bid for him - Romano

Arsenal were reportedly planning a bid to sign Espanyol striker Raul De Tomas this summer, but Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United have now been offered the chance to sign him

Reports had suggested that the Gunners were weighing up an offer for De Tomas this summer before the club brought in Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners were linked to a host of strikers across Europe following the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Of course, Arteta eventually opted for Jesus and the Brazilian has settled in brilliantly in North London.

But Arsenal were thought to be keen on De Tomas and now he could be heading to Old Trafford.

United offered chance to sign De Tomas

In his latest column for Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano claims that Espanyol have now offered United the chance to sign De Tomas this summer

“A number of big-name strikers were offered to Manchester United following the collapse of negotiations for Arnautovic,” Romano said.

“Atletico Madrid still hope to keep Alvaro Morata, while Mauro Icardi is out of the PSG project and has been offered to many clubs, but there are still no negotiations underway.

“Raul De Tomas is still available on the transfer market and Man United have been advised of the player’s availability.”

A product of the Real Madrid academy, De Tomas has performed brilliantly since making the switch to Espanyol from Benfica.

The 27-year-old has netted 45 times in 89 games for the La Liga outfit and produced a decent return.

The Spanish striker may have struggled at Benfica and isn’t exactly a household name, but he has been a key player for the Barcelona club.

Arsenal fans probably won’t be too worried about De Tomas being offered to United, especially after signing Jesus this summer.

Erik Ten Hag’s men are in clear need of a striker with doubts remaining over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future. As Arsenal have already filled the role in their team, the Red Devils could have a clear run for the player.
