A number of Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports claiming that the club sent scouts to watch Illan Meslier in action for Leeds United in their defeat to Manchester City.

Meslier is on their radar as they consider their long-term plans between the sticks. The Daily Mail notes that the Red Devils could lose Dean Henderson at the end of the campaign. The 24-year-old would be keen to move on should he remain the backup choice at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that David De Gea’s contract expires at the end of next season. His deal does include a one-year option. But it would appear that they are keeping an eye on potential replacements.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Tony Coton watched Meslier at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. Meanwhile, he has previously been monitored by the club’s chief scout.

Of course, it proved to be an incredibly difficult night for Meslier. Leeds were thrashed 7-0 by Pep Guardiola’s men.

However, the scoreline could have easily been a lot worse had it not been for the 21-year-old. He could have arguably done better for the opening goal, spilling the ball as Rodri went through. But from there, he made a number of very good saves.

The Daily Mail notes that Manchester United view the Leeds stopper as the best young goalkeeper in the country. And it is clear that plenty of their fans would be in favour of a future move.

Some do not think he is needed. And there are some on social media who do not rate Meslier. However, those who have watched him more often believe that he would be a really exciting addition.

With that in mind, here is what some of the fans make of the reports…
