Manchester United are looking to make a fresh start under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and could be set to beat Liverpool in the race to make a new signing this summer.

Erik ten Hag has sealed his future at Old Trafford with the new ownership making their backing of the Dutch manager clear.

However, there is a lot of work for Manchester United to do this summer if they are going to return to the top end of the table.

Unlike United, Liverpool find themselves welcoming a new manager in Arne Slot following Jurgen Klopp‘s exit at the end of the campaign.

And it seems the new man in the dugout at Anfield is set to get his first taste of the fierce rivalry between the two clubs as they both compete for an exciting defender this summer.

Manchester United set to battle Liverpool for defender

Last season saw United scrape into the European spots after winning the FA Cup which secured them a spot in the Europa League.

However, Liverpool are able to boast Champions League football going into the new campaign.

But there will remain uncertainties as to what lies ahead of the Reds over the coming months with a new manager at the helm.

These are all things one specific player may have to consider this summer when deciding on his future.

According to Calciomercato, Manchester United are currently showing the most interest in Fenerbahce defender Ferdi Kadioglu.

It is claimed the Turkish side are looking for a fee in the region of €30m (£25m) this summer with Juventus also showing an interest.

However, the Italian side will be well aware of the competition coming from the Premier League with Liverpool and Newcastle United also credited in the report.

Kadioglu played every minute of Turkey’s five games at this summer’s Euros which saw them bow out in the quarter finals.

He has been hailed as a ‘superstar‘ having impressed from left-back where he has become a mainstay in the Fenerbahce side.

But the Dutch-born Turkey international is now going to face a big decision on where his future may lie.

He clearly has a lot of interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, however, he now has the opportunity to work under Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.
