Manchester City fans discuss reports that Newcastle could try an ambitious move to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko
Newcastle are reportedly considering a move to sign Manchester City left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko – and City fans have reacted on Twitter.
The Toon are likely to be in the market for a new left-back when January comes around. Matt Ritchie continues to remain first choice at left-back.
That is, despite boasting Jamal Lewis – a £15million signing under Steve Bruce – and Wales international Paul Dummett who is a squad player.
None are really the long-term answer and Newcastle have lacked a decent option in that position ever since Jetro Willems suffered a knee injury.
But Zinchenko, a three-time Premier League winner, would change that. The Echo say Newcastle are eyeing an ‘ambitious’ move to sign him.
The report suggests a loan move could be engineered for Zinchenko, with Joao Cancelo currently shining on the left side of Pep Guardiola’s defence.
What do Manchester City fans think about Zinchenko to Newcastle?
The defender is now well into the last three years of his contract and while that is not an issue – it is up in the air whether he deserves a new deal.
A squad player, that sometimes gets a run in the side, he is not good enough to start every week. He lacks the versatility to be a solid bench option.
That has seen him play just five times this season, equalling less than 250 minutes of action. A move to Newcastle would see him be first choice.
Manchester City fans are understanding that he could go to get game time – and discuss a potential price if a permanent sale is discussed.
