Man United’s £13m outcast loved by Ten Hag could yet play a role under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United are a team in transition under Ruben Amorim and have endured an inconsistent start to the new Premier League campaign.

A win over Sunderland last time out helped to move the Red Devils up the table and relieve some of the pressure on the United manager, who is still trying to find a settled side.

United signed Benjamin Sesko and a host of other attacking players over the summer, but issues at the other end of the pitch have caused problems for the Old Trafford outfit.

With 11 goals conceded so far in the Premier League, Amorim needs to review his defensive options – with one fringe man returning to fitness and availability.

Tyrell Malacia available for United

Netherlands international Tyrell Malacia was Erik Ten Hag’s first signing as United boss, joining for £13 million in the summer of 2022 – but the left-back has endured a tough time in England.

The 26-year-old has toiled with injuries since moving to Old Trafford and has only made 25 Premier League appearances over the last three seasons.

However, after a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven last season, Malacia is back at United and is fit and available should Amorim need the defender.

Despite being a fringe man and United having fewer games due to not being in Europe, there is an argument that Malacia could yet play a role for the side this season.

Dorgu under the spotlight

Denmark international Patrick Dorgu is first choice in the left wing-back position for Amorim, but the United wideman has yet to impress since signing in January.

Malacia’s attributes actually suit Amorim’s system well, with the Dutchman full of running and attacking intent, making him a good option as a wing-back.

While it would be a surprise to see Malacia included in the United team to face Liverpool after the international break, the former Feyenoord man should not be discounted by Amorim and could yet have a role to play if he can stay fit.
