TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Manchester City have now pencilled in new contract talks with Phil Foden following his excellent start to the new season.

As things stand, Phil Foden’s current deal is set to expire in 2027, and to this point, the two parties have not opened talks.

There had been an agreement that Man City wanted Foden to simply concentrate on getting back to full fitness and to focus on himself.

Foden is understood to have been fully on board with those plans, and there was no doubt from the City or the player that he would be back to his best.

And Foden has impressed in recent weeks when deployed more centrally – he played a starring role in City’s derby win over Manchester United, scoring early on.

TBR Football understands that contract talks between Foden’s team and director of football Hugo Viana are due to take place in the upcoming international breaks.

Foden missed out on the most recent Thomas Tuchel squad, but he is determined to push to become a key part for the Three Lions ahead of the World Cup finals.

And chief correspondent Graeme Bailey is confident that Foden will soon pen a new deal with City.

“Phil Foden’s link-up play with Erling Haaland this season has been joyous, but it is not a shock to City, they know what they have.

“Yes, there has been a bit of a rebuild, the likes of De Bruyne, Ederson, Walker have all departed.

“But with Rodri, Dias, Foden and Haaland – that is the heartbeat of this City squad and Guardiola believes they can be a match for anyone.

“He doesn’t want to lose any of his cornerstone players – it is a case of when Foden signs his new deal, not if.”

Erling Haaland was convinced by Phil Foden’s talent when he first joined Man City

As mentioned, Foden and Erling Haaland have been linking up seamlessly this season, a joy for City fans to watch at the Etihad.

And speaking back in 2022 in his first interview after joining City, Haaland hailed his new teammate as an ‘amazing’ young player.

Haaland said: “I’ve been watching a lot of City games for as long as I can remember, so of course I’ve also watched Phil.

“He’s an amazing player, still a talent because he’s still young, but he’s an amazing player and he still has to develop and then we can really talk.”

And although Haaland has dreams to play in Spain one day, as exclusively revealed by TBR Football, City fans will continue to enjoy their star duo for years to come.

Haaland has a long-term contract with Pep Guardiola’s side, and if talks go to plan, Foden will soon have a similar deal.
