Report: 'Sensational' Man City ace wants a move to Spanish capital; doesn't care which Madrid club

Man City defender Aymeric Laporte has made a move to Madrid a priority, according to El Confidencial.

The publication is claiming that the ace doesn’t care whether it’s Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.

There has been mass speculation over the future of the central defender.

He was displaced by John Stones with Pep Guardiola preferring the England international as Ruben Dias’ partner.

Laporte made just 27 appearances across all competitions, including a meagre 16 in the Premier League.

He has been linked with a move to Barcelona with reports claiming the 27-year-old pressuring the board to sell him.

It’s also emerged that the defender’s status as a Spain international has made him decide to push for a move.

TBR View: Spain transfer wise for Man City after show of ability from Laporte

It should be noted that despite having fallen down the pecking order last season, the centre-back is still a good player.

His desire to move back to Spain saves the Citizens the headache of attempting to stop him from joining a rival.

Guardiola may have been worried had Laporte wanted to remain in England. It could’ve opened up the possibility of strengthening a rival

The ‘sensational’ 27-year-old has been superb during his career in the northwest. Laporte was called the best left-sided defender in the world by Guardiola.

His impact following his transfer from Atletic Bilbao was Virgil van Dijk-esque. And his three league titles in four years is a show of his class and ability.

Letting Laporte move to a rival would’ve been a worry for Man City this summer.

He could well have chosen to remain in England and thus strengthen a rival. However, his desire to return to his homeland leaves the club breathing a sigh of relief.
