Leeds United defender Luke Ayling celebrated his birthday on Sunday and received messages from plenty of former teammates and current Leeds stars – including one from Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira.
Ayling turned 28 over the weekend as he watched from the sidelines during Leeds’ 3-0 win over Stoke City at the Britannia. On Monday, Ayling returned to training only weeks after undergoing surgery on an ankle knock he picked up last month.
Vieira, who turned out 71 times for Leeds after making his debut in the last game of the 2015-16 season. He then turned out the next two seasons for the Whites, before being sold to Sampdoria by Marcelo Bielsa’s side for £6.2million (Guardian).
The 21-year-old played 90 minutes as Sampdoria lost 3-0 to Lazio on Sunday, but sent a birthday message to Ayling on Instagram – which the defender replied to, by telling the midfielder that he misses him at Elland Road.

TBR’s view – Should Leeds bring Vieira home?
If Premier League promotion occurs next May, Vieira would be a decent addition to the side – but only as back up to Kalvin Phillips. Vieira and Phillips had a very strong bond during their time together, but Vieira is certainly below Phillips in terms of quality.
That being said, if Leeds could get Vieira for a price similar to the one they received for Vieira’s signature, then a move to land the England youth international is an absolute no brainer.
