Luis Garcia singles out one Liverpool player for praise as Reds smash FC Porto 5-1
Luis Garcia has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Curtis Jones after the Liverpool midfielder laid on three assists in his side’s 5-1 win over Porto.
At the start of last week, 20-year-old Jones had only managed two substitute outings. But in the space of the week, he has started three times.
Impressing in a Carabao Cup against Norwich, Jones the netted a worldie in the 3-3 draw with Brentford. His form improved even further on Tuesday.
In a sensational performance, Liverpool drifted past Porto with consummate ease. The England Under-21 international laid on three assists.
Mo Salah opened the scoring, tapping home after Jones had cut inside; his shot parried. James Milner’s brilliant cross was tapped in by Sadio Mane.
Salah’s second came when Jones rolled a beautifully-weighted pass into the Egyptian’s path, for Salah to finish his seventh goal of the season.
He also got an assist for the first of Roberto Firmino’s brace in Portugal, after Porto got one back. Firmino got two, but Garcia raved about Jones.
Luis Garcia on Jones: England call-up close for Liverpool star?
Jones is starring for the Reds and is arguably one of the most in-form players, in one of the most in-form sides. England on the horizon?
Well, the issue for Jones is that there are numerous players in his kind of position. Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Mason Mount and plenty more.
But his ability to play deeper might help him. Who knows, but one thing is for sure – Jones is playing the best football of his life and deserves praise.
