Lucas Paqueta shares what Bruno Guimaraes told him about West Ham

Lucas Paqueta has told The Times what Bruno Guimaraes told him about West Ham before the midfielder completed his club-record move to the London Stadium in the summer.

Bruno has been a fantastic addition to the Premier League. He joined Newcastle United at a time when their Premier League status was in plenty of doubt. However, he went on to play a key role in Eddie Howe’s men taking themselves away from the relegation battle with ease.

His success surely only increased the likelihood of his Lyon teammate following him to England. Paqueta is a player who has been linked with a raft of Premier League clubs.

Reports claimed that Arsenal had held talks about a deal. Meanwhile, Manchester City were also admirers of the Brazil international.

But ultimately, it was West Ham who won the race. The Hammers paid £51 million to bring him to the London Stadium. And the early signs are that this deal could be a game-changer for David Moyes’ side.

And perhaps the Irons partially have Bruno to thank for Paqueta ending up in the capital. The midfielder shared what his good friend told him about the Hammers before the switch.

“Bruno told me the Premier League is a great competition and was very complimentary about West Ham,” he told The Times. “He told me it was a great club and difficult to play against. I just joked and said, ‘They’ll be even more difficult when I am there.’ ”

What Bruno told Paqueta about West Ham

The two players are certainly amongst those to watch over the coming seasons. There is already evidence that Newcastle have produced a masterstroke signing Bruno.

And West Ham fans can be optimistic that the deal for Paqueta proves to be just as inspired in the future.

Both clubs have the potential to upset the apple cart in the Premier League. And the deals for the Brazilian midfielders are only going to help them rub shoulders with the heavyweights in the division.
