Liverpool star Fabinho and Manchester City skipper Fernandinho have been two of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League in recent years, but Tottenham stars Lucas Moura and Emerson Royal disagree on who’s better.

The two Brazilians from Spurs sat down for an interview on the Premier League’s official YouTube channel and were asked to pick a five-a-side team filled with their countrymen.

Emerson went with Ederson in goal, while Lucas picked Liverpool star Alisson. They agreed on Thiago Silva in defence, but the debate in midfield was arguably the most interesting one.

Lucas and Emerson debate Fernandinho vs Fabinho

Lucas went first and the Tottenham attacker was adamant that Fernandinho was the man. He said: “For me. it’s Fernandinho. He’s one of the best Brazilians to play in the Premier League.

“(He has) too much experience. He’s very, very clever, he’s tough as well. I’ll say Fernandinho because I’m his fan.”

Emerson, however, disagreed. The defender believes Liverpool’s £43 million star (Sky Sports) Fabinho is the better midfielder for his five-a-side side.

He said: “He (Fabinho) is such a top-quality player. He reads the danger and snuffs it out. He’s got a real fighting spirit. So, for me, it’s Fabinho.”

TBR View:

We just can’t pick one.

In his prime, Fernandinho was one of the biggest reasons why Manchester City were so successful. He was absolutely fantastic in the middle of their park, and he will go down as one of the club’s greats.

Fabinho could well be branded as Liverpool’s Fernandinho. The 28-year-old is one of Liverpool’s most underrated players – not because he isn’t appreciated as much as the likes of Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but because a lot of the good things he does on the pitch go unnoticed.

As we already said, we just can’t pick the better player, but if Fabinho helps Liverpool win another Champions League title at the end of this month, he may just get the edge.
