Lorenzo Insigne shares what Gennaro Gattuso told him about Tottenham talks
Gennaro Gattuso’s move to Tottenham Hotspur appeared to collapse when an angry backlash from supporters prompted Daniel Levy to exit talks. However, Lorenzo Insigne has claimed – as per Football Italia – that Gattuso himself believes that there was a “bit of a mess” at Tottenham.
Gattuso entered talks with Tottenham after a move to hire Paulo Fonseca fell at the last hurdle over financial issues. Gattuso had left Fiorentina just 23 days after joining La Viola from Napoli. Talks were at an advanced stage, but fans were not happy with past comments made by the Italian.
That saw a deal fall through. It leaves Daniel Levy back at square one, with Fabio Paratici’s three choices all falling through – Gattuso, Fonseca and Antonio Conte. But speaking about Gattuso and Tottenham, Insigne said: “We’ve texted each other, he told me there was a bit of mess.”
Tottenham manager news: Where do Spurs turn now, after Insigne claim?
Tottenham are now scraping at the barrel. They are keen on Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag and Brighton’s Graham Potter. But any appointment now will likely be a manager currently in a job, costing Spurs more money. An international manager could be an option.
Roberto Martinez, currently with Belgium, is a target. Mark Lawrenson has suggested Italy’s Roberto Mancini. But it appears there is a whole lot of work to do at Tottenham and Daniel Levy is far from making an announcement. The clock has already been ticking for some time.
In other Tottenham manager news aside from Insigne, Spurs fans have responded to a claim made by TalkSPORT.
