Liverpool’s stance on Arne Slot’s future at Anfield after four games without Premier League win

Arne Slot has overseen four Premier League defeats in a row as Liverpool manager, and questions over his future at Anfield have been raised.

The Dutchman enjoyed tremendous success during his first campaign in England, guiding the Reds to their second league title of the Premier League era.

2025/26 has been difficult for the reigning champions, however, with the Brentford clash over the weekend their fourth loss in a row in the league.

Slot has matched an unwanted streak set by Brendan Rodgers, but despite a tough start to the season, it doesn’t look as though the former Feyenoord coach will be replaced anytime soon.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool job not under threat

BBC journalist Phil McNulty answered questions about Liverpool this week, one of which was about the pressure Slot is facing.

However, McNulty insisted the Reds are not prone to panicking, even if future results don’t go their way.

He said: “Slot is under the same pressure as every Liverpool manager – and that is the pressure to win games. Pressure for his job? Not a chance.

“Slot won the title in his first season after succeeding Jurgen Klopp, and while he needs wins as quickly as possible, Liverpool is not the sort of club to panic, even if the next sequence of results go badly.

“I would agree, however, that they need to show signs of becoming more resilient and balanced, because I think they are a dysfunctional, soft touch at the moment. And, Hugo Ekitike apart, their big signings have not yet delivered.

“Slot, however, still has plenty of credit in the bank and Liverpool is a calm club internally, not given to hasty, panicky decisions, certainly not when it involves a manager who won the Premier League last season.”

The problems Arne Slot must overcome at Liverpool

While he’s not under pressure at the moment, there are a few key issues Slot must address to get the Reds back to their best.

Liverpool’s aerial difficulties have been exploited this season, with teams hitting their back line with a barrage of long balls in a bid to force mistakes.

Cody Gakpo’s selfishness has become a major talking point, with the Dutchman drawing ire from fans amid his insistence on cutting inside from the left, rather than linking up with struggling left-back Milos Kerkez.

Mohamed Salah missing chances has impacted Liverpool’s form this term as well, though Slot has insisted he is not worried about the winger.

He said: “Players miss chances and he is a human being. We are not used to him missing chances.

“The main thing is that he always has scored goals for Liverpool. The last thing I worry about is Mo scoring goals again. He’s done that his entire life and I expect him to do that again in the coming weeks and months.”
